Amway Overview

Amway, short for, American Way

This is a family owned business

Amway was founded by Jay Van Andel and Rich DeVos in 1959.

They have grown the business  into a multi billion dollar company.

The family business continues today with Steve Van Andel and Doug DeVos as co-chairs on the Board of Directors.

The company operates in about 100 countries around the world.

Contrary to rumors, it is not as far as I can see. Banned from anywhere.

Amway Multi-level Marketing business or MLM.

So what is Amway about

Usually people are introduced to Amway through someone (a friend) offering you a company product. Or someone you know will contact you with an incredible business opportunity.

Which they can’t tell you anything about at the moment.

Then they will want to meet up with you to show you and usually other people, the plan, showing the way you could earn a great income.

There are many different levels to the company. Everyone is an IBO ( independent business owner ) Yet everyone works in teams all the way to the top of the company.

The founders believed that owning a business of your own could help you provide an income level you choose, based on the amount of time and effort you are prepared to invest in your business and therefore make a better life for you and your family

Who is Amway For?

The business opp is aimed at anyone willing to try so long as you are willing to buy a starter pack of products that you can try out yourself.

With this being a multi-level marketing business you will need to contact a lot of your friends plus many more people to build it to a good size and to allow for people to drop out.

You will also have to gain some customers to sell goods too. so you do need to be a people person.

Amway Tools & Training

This is one area where you will never be lacking. The sheer amount of meetings. And info that they expect you to consume, old recorded seminars to listen to once a week, and book of the month to read. Of course you also have to buy these. They are not compulsory but your business will not grow without this info. So you are told.

Amway Support

The support offered  is only as good as your sponsor. If they have been going for several months then they will have a little knowledge. Getting info from further up line can be very difficult.

Amway Pricing

The levels of pricing start from the amount of products you initially buy to try yourself. So anywhere from $100 upwards.

Then once you are ready to start recruiting people you will  have to factor in your transport costs to and from meetings And also buy maybe a white board and easel so that you can show the Amway plan to your audience.

You will be hard pressed not to buy audio products weekly and also the book of the month.

Then will be told to attend the big seminars. These can be very expensive depending where the event is and where you live. So include either driving, train, coach, or flights. Plus admission costs and hotel for a couple of nights.

The total annual costs can mount up into the $1000’s.

The Pros and Cons

The Pros

PRO 1  This is a large company so there should be no money problems with payments to you.

PRO 2  Most products are good.

PRO 3  You can start this in your spare time.

The Cons

CON 1  You can have trouble getting your products delivered to you on time or not at all.

Con 2  You may have to pay for all of the goods being delivered to you from Amway for your customers and your down line people.

CON 3  The continual up sells will hurt any profit you make.

CON 4  Can have a cult-like feeling,You are told if you do not attend all seminars you will not grow your business. You are made to feel like a loser, for not attending.

My Final Opinion of Amway after 12 months in the business.

When I joined Amway.

A part time business!

The way to financial freedom!

And a life with much more fun time, and less work after a year or two of effort.

Myself and around ten other people were the first people in our area to be introduced to the business, after being contacted by a friend. Before this meeting Amway had never been seen or heard of in our area.

I had a telephone call from a friend who told me that he had a great opportunity for me to see.

But he couldn’t give out any info on the phone, but could give me an audio recording explaining the opportunity.

When I listened to it. Well I was completely confused, as the recording was just a load of talk about nothing and gave nothing away.

My friend had never phoned me about this sort of thing before.

So about a week later we were all told to meet up at an address given to us, on a Friday night.

We were also told to dress smartly.

The event was held at a very large and impressive looking house.

We were all introduced to other people unknown to any of us. These people had been in the business for a while. Some we learned later were very new, only about one month in themselves.

At the meeting where we were shown the plan. We were all asked if we were interested in the idea. I think that everyone thought it was worth looking into. The meeting lasted about two hours.

So the next day, Saturday we all had separate follow up meetings with different reps to learn the nuts and bolts as it was called.

This lasted about two hours with lots of questions and answers.

I signed up, and ordered the starter pack.

I also had to buy the audio recording of the week and book of the month. This was really going to help me grow mentally and financially. With all the information from top leaders in Amway.

By the following Friday I had around thirty to forty people interested in a new business opp, but couldn’t tell them anything about it. But would send them an audio recording.

Which no one could make any sense of.

Some of my group were interested. And so we had follow up meetings with them.

And so the pattern was set and for the next month to six weeks I had a very large amount of people to show the plan to.

By this time my list was getting smaller and started getting only about ten people at a time.

My up line weren’t very impressed with my efforts

So now I had to show the plan myself and do the follow up meetings.

By the way all the time you are working for Amway, you do of course have to dress in a certain way. For both men and women it may have changed now. And you must hold meetings in the best houses or rent a nice meeting room to give the impression that you are somebody who is making good money.

It was also frowned upon for men to have beards, a friend of mine who was my direct up line had a beard for many years but it had to go, if he’s business was to grow.

Because you need your audience to focus on your face and words and not your beard. Sad but true.

The thing is that now my first group of people were ordering goods to sell, which was great as I got a small commission on all products.

But I had to order all the products and then my people had to collect them from me usually at a set time on the weekend.

Also now my recruits were recruiting people and I was showing them the plan and helping out with their follow ups. Which was all great at first but time consuming.

After about four months there was talk of a large seminar taking place which was crucial for me to attend. The cost was not cheap. The seminar was scheduled for a full weekend starting on Friday night and ending Sunday.

For me to attend cost me flights, attendance fee. Hotel, meals, etc.

I had never been to anything like it.

Everyone on stage was telling their story tears and all but it always ended on a very positive note with huge applause.

The thing is nobody talked about how much they were making at all.

And nobody really told us how they kept on getting new people involved in the business.

Apart from never give up trying at every opportunity Any time or place

And also why they were still all working on their business every day, if they had achieved financial freedom. Where was all the fun and money and less work.

I continued on promoting Amway, and didn’t see much of my usual friends.

I Kept on buying the audio of the week and book of the month.

Of course as your down line expands more and more you move up to different levels.

So now you start getting better information on how to build your business even bigger, with better audio info and better books. Which told exactly the same old stories.

Then after about ten months I Went with some of my down line on an even bigger event, with some of the top people from the USA and Britain giving us their stories. It was very uplifting

But in reality it was a repeat show of the last event.

At the start of my involvement I said that I would give this a good go for one year.

As we got towards the end of the twelve months things started to change in my group. People were dropping out.

Some were fed up trying to sell products and trying to continually introduce new people into the business.

We were told you could never reach saturation point but I would have to disagree with their view on that. Just about everyone I spoke to had heard about Amway or knew someone who knew someone that had tried it or heard bad reports about it.

I had put so much time and effort into this, I had kept a log of all my hours and income and outlay. But in the end the figures told the story.

I spent every weekend and most nights working in some way to make this work.

I also involved a lot of family and friends.

But in the end if you lose your down line you lose your business and there’s nothing you can do about it.

I reluctantly gave up much to my up lines disgust. The amount of phone calls I received was unbelievable.

Some of the people that were at the first meeting I attended were really going places with very large groups under them.

Some ended up on stage giving their story.

But not long after sadly, not one of them stayed with the business.

All their networks collapsed.

No people, No business, No money. Dreams destroyed.

We all learnt a lot and it did teach us things we wouldn’t have thought we could have done.

Like standing up in front of many complete strangers and showing the plan and having a Q & A session  with everyone after the plan. Which was certainly very nerve racking in the beginning.

I hope this review has given you a little insight into this company.
